Wave Light Fountain | Design and Installation of the Wave Light Water Jet Array

The Wave Light Fountain is characterized by slender, nearly transparent water columns that are arranged in groups or spray in pairs. Light is projected from the nozzles and travels through the water columns, creating a luminous effect reminiscent of fiber-optic bundles. Its appeal lies not in the variety of water patterns, but in the neat array and the sense of transparency of the water jets, which are particularly striking at night.

Five Key Design Principles

Water Column Transparency

The clearer the water column, the better the light transmission. The machining precision of the nozzle and water quality directly determine whether the water column spreads out or appears cloudy. If water quality is not properly managed, light transmission will significantly decrease.

Light-Water Coupling

The light source must be precisely directed into the center of the water column at the nozzle; even a slight deviation in the angle of incidence will cause the light to escape. This is one of the most time-consuming steps in the construction and commissioning of the Wave Light Fountain.

Array Layout

The spacing, height, and rhythm of the water jets must be consistent. The more uniform the array, the greater the visual impact; if even a single water jet differs in height or angle, the overall effect is immediately ruined.

Wind Conditions

Fine water jets have low wind resistance. In open areas or around high-rise buildings, the wind conditions must be assessed first; if necessary, adjust the length of the water jet, the nozzle diameter, or switch to a different spray pattern.

Pools and Splash Pools

The splash radius of the fine water jet must be calculated, especially when it is located near pedestrian walkways. The pool edge treatment and the return water slope must be determined during the design phase.

Primarily at night

The aesthetic appeal of the Glistening Spring is best appreciated at night. If the project primarily attracts visitors during the day, it should incorporate other water features or landscape elements to prevent the area from appearing sparse during daylight hours.

Applicable Scenarios

Bridges and Waterways

They are arranged in groups on both sides of the bridge or along the embankment, forming a continuous band of light at night.

Hotel and Business Entrances

A symmetrical arrangement on both sides of the entrance emphasizes a sense of ceremony and a welcoming atmosphere.

Boundaries of the Plaza

Arranged along the edge of the plaza or the steps, they serve as a flexible boundary defining the space.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the "Shimmering Spring" and the "Leaping Spring" the same thing?

No. The "Glistening Spring" features slender, continuous water jets and a light-guiding effect where the lights follow the water, creating a stable visual pattern; the "Leaping Spring," on the other hand, features water jets that leap in segments, with distinct rhythmic variations. The two types differ in both nozzle structure and lighting methods, but they can be used in combination.

Does it work well during the day?

During the day, the focus is primarily on the shape and uniformity of the water columns; the light-guiding effect is largely imperceptible. If foot traffic is the main draw during the day, we recommend combining the Water Glimmer Fountain with other water features, such as straight-flow fountains or gushing fountains, or making the Water Glimmer Fountain the centerpiece of nighttime performances.

Can it be used in windy areas?

Exercise caution. Thin water jets are vulnerable to wind; when winds are strong, they can scatter or veer off course, disrupting the array’s appearance. On-site wind conditions must be assessed during the site selection phase, and the design should be adjusted if necessary.

What are the water quality requirements?

The requirements are quite high. Impurities and scale in the water can affect the water jet pattern emitted by the nozzles, which in turn affects the transparency of the water column and its light-guiding performance. Typically, filtration and water treatment equipment are installed, and the nozzles are cleaned regularly.

What does maintenance mainly involve?

The focus is on nozzle cleaning, light source inspection, and water quality management. Because the nozzles have small orifices, they are prone to clogging; therefore, the maintenance schedule should include a separate frequency specifically for them.

How long will the construction take?

Standard projects typically take 45–90 days. The commissioning work for the Wave Light Fountain is relatively extensive, as the alignment of the lights and water must be adjusted individually on-site; sufficient time should be set aside for this portion of the project.
