Most of the time spent on a fountain project isn’t consumed by ”installation” but by waiting: waiting for civil engineering work, waiting for electrical and plumbing work, waiting for the site to be handed over, and waiting for other trades to clear the site. The actual installation phase often accounts for only one-third of the total project duration. This page breaks down the timeline into three distinct phases and lists the site conditions that the owner must prepare before construction begins—the more thorough these preparations are, the closer the project schedule will be to the plan.

The cycle consists of three parts
| Stage | Cycle Reference | Where does it take place? | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Equipment Manufacturing | 25–60 days | On the factory premises | Manufacturing, assembly, and on-site integration testing. These activities can proceed in parallel with on-site civil construction, which is a critical window for shortening the overall project schedule. |
| On-site Installation | 15–45 days | On-site | Installation of piping, equipment, electrical systems, and lighting fixtures. The timeline depends on the status of the civil engineering handover and site conditions. |
| Programming and Debugging | 7–20 days | On-site | Water pattern programming, lighting coordination, music synchronization, and test runs. The more complex the water pattern, the longer this part takes. |
General estimate: 45–90 days for standard projects and 3–6 months for complex projects. Projects involving approval processes and coordination with civil engineering work may take longer.
On-Site Construction Process
| Steps | Process Steps | Inspection Points | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | Site Entry and Verification of Conditions | Site, Water and Electricity, Embedded Components | Verify that the design drawings match the actual conditions on site, and report any discrepancies immediately to avoid extensive rework later on. |
| 02 | Pre-installation and Piping Installation | Pipe routing, slope, and fastening | This is the stage that involves the most overlapping work with civil engineering. The embedded sleeves and the return water slope must be installed correctly the first time. |
| 03 | Equipment Installation | Pump units, filters, and control cabinets are in place | The equipment foundation, vibration isolation, and ventilation conditions must meet the equipment requirements, and drainage from the pump room must be unobstructed. |
| 04 | Electrical and Lighting Installation | Cables, Connectors, Grounding | Underwater connections and waterproofing are key, and electrical safety testing is completed at this stage. |
| 05 | Nozzle Installation and Water Pattern Adjustment | Water discharge height and form | Adjust each nozzle individually; for array-style water patterns, ensure consistency and uniformity. |
| 06 | Control System Commissioning | Programs, Interlinking, Synchronization | Water-based programming is synchronized with the lighting, and the musical fountain undergoes program synchronization calibration during this phase. |
| 07 | Trial Operation and Training | Continuous Operation, Operational Training | Conduct continuous trial operations to monitor stability, provide the maintenance contractor with the operation and maintenance manual, and complete training. |
Requirements the Property Owner Must Meet Before Construction Begins
Site Handover
The construction area must be cleared, free of obstructions, and ready for hoarding. For public spaces, occupancy permits and traffic management plans must be obtained in advance.
Power Connection
Provide temporary and permanent power supplies at the design capacity, and clearly identify the locations of the connection points. Insufficient capacity is the most common cause of work stoppages on-site.
Water Supply and Drainage Conditions
Determine the water filling points, drainage points, and discharge routes. The commissioning phase requires multiple cycles of filling and draining, and poor drainage will directly slow down progress.
Civil Engineering Interface
The tank has been waterproofed, the equipment pits and embedded components are accurately positioned, and the backfill has been properly placed and compacted. It would be best for us to conduct a technical briefing before proceeding with construction.
Lifting and Transportation Aisles
Large pump units and control cabinets must be hoisted into place; please confirm in advance the access routes, ceiling heights, turning radii, and load-bearing capacity of the work area.
On-Site Coordination Mechanism
Identify the points of contact and the sequence of work for the general contractor, civil engineering, landscaping, and electrical/plumbing. When multiple trades overlap, the coordination mechanism determines the construction schedule.
Construction Challenges in Different Scenarios
| Scene | Main Challenges | Response |
|---|---|---|
| City Square | Construction must not interfere with the public’s use of the area. | Submit applications for barriers and traffic management in advance; schedule work during off-peak hours; and work backward from the target completion date to determine the work schedule based on available working hours. |
| Retail Complex | Construction During Business Hours: Noise and Dust Control | Nighttime work and section-by-section fencing must be carried out in accordance with operational requirements, and waterproofing and moisture-proofing procedures must be completed under these conditions. |
| Hotel | Must not disturb the guests | Avoid the guest room area during work hours; schedule noisy tasks at specific times; and use the service corridor for transporting materials and equipment. |
| Cultural and Tourism Attractions | Waterway Construction and Seasonal Windows | Water-related construction requires a professional plan; it should be scheduled to avoid peak season and the flood season, and the project must be completed before the park opens. |
| Residential Real Estate | Tightly tied to delivery milestones | Work backward from key sales milestones, allowing for a buffer period for debugging and corrections to avoid potential issues caused by rushing the work. |
| Villa Garden | Limited space, protection of finished products | Small equipment should be transported separately, and completed landscaping and paving should be properly protected. |
The Four Most Common Causes of Project Delays
The civil engineering work was not delivered on time.
If the pool structure, equipment pit, or waterproofing isn’t complete, the installation crew has no choice but to wait. This is the most common cause of delays, but it can be partially mitigated by having equipment manufacturing proceed in parallel with civil construction.
Changes to the Plan Midway Through
If the design is modified after the detailed design phase, the piping, electrical systems, and control programs will all need to be recalculated. The later the changes are made, the higher the cost; therefore, decisions on the final design must be made decisively.
The interface dimensions don't match
Deviations in the location of embedded conduits, insufficient dimensions of equipment pits, and inadequate power supply capacity. Making a change in one area on-site often affects a whole section, so technical briefings must be conducted in advance.
Approvals and Procedures
Public space projects involve approvals for construction fencing, street occupancy, water and electricity use, and fire safety. The approval process often takes longer than the construction itself, so it must be initiated well in advance.
We cannot compromise on safety issues.
| Segment | Requirements |
|---|---|
| Electrical Safety | Ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) + equipotential bonding; control box rated IP65 or higher; underwater luminaires rated IP68 for permanent submersion. |
| Work in Water | Work must be performed with the power turned off and under the supervision of a designated person; lifesaving and protective equipment must be provided for construction in water. |
| Lifting Operations | Verification of the working area’s load-bearing capacity, establishment of a safety perimeter, and operation by certified personnel. |
| Temporary Electrical Power | Ensure proper wiring and grounding; waterproof all outdoor joints; and turn off the power and conduct an inspection at the end of each workday. |
| Debugging Phase | Test each unit and each circuit individually; if any abnormalities are detected, shut down the system immediately to investigate; adjust underwater equipment while the system is de-energized. |
